Travel From Home – Top Ways To Trot The World Without Leaving Your Nest

There are several reasons that can hamper your travel. Money constraints, family/work commitments, health issues and in such cases the only way to manage that wanderlust is to continue to travel for home. If it’s none of those then unforeseeable events like the current pandemic can throw all your travel plans out.

We are almost midway through 2020 and boy, what a crazy time in the world this is. Never in a million years did we imagine there would come a time where the whole world would go on a lockdown. Not a country for a while, not a portion of it, but the ENTIRE WORLD.

And if you are a travel buff like us or even someone who just loves that little break from the routine, itching to go at an exotic location or a place you haven’t seen before, you are surely bummed out. But don’t get disheartened, we are always here for our virtual family in the form of travel ideas, recommendations or even just beautiful photos to keep you dreaming.

So, in these times when we are all cooped up inside, we have put together a list of things/activities you can engage in and get transported to destinations, feel the travel vibes, and create joy in your own current space aka ways to travel from home.

Sure, all of our physical travel plans are on hold but that doesn’t mean we can’t have those travel experiences. So #trotwithus and let us show you how!

Also, if you do try any of these or perhaps something new, we would love to know about it in the comments below and we would also love for you to share a picture, use #trotwithus and tag us on Instagram so we can repost them on our stories and this way together we can help out our fellow travel lovers in these trying times!

Put on that swimsuit & get a tan

The number one thing on our “travel from home” ideas and a favorite of many is getting that perfect summer sun tan. Whether you have a patio or just a window if you live in an apartment like us you can still do this because hey all you need is the sun! Here’s how we do it to feel all those beachy vibes. We like to roll out our mat sit by the window where we get plenty of sunlight, put some sound of crashing waves on, along with the visuals. Also, hey go overboard, put on some sunnies & a cocktail to complete that vibe 😉

Travel the world through food

A major part of traveling is experiencing local culture through its cuisine. We all love eating and tasting local delicacies while on our trip so another way to teleport yourself to your favorite destinations is whipping up that country’s staple dish in your very own kitchen. You can either pick a dish from a place you planned on visiting or try a recipe of your favorite dish from your previous travels.

Here is how we travel from home in trying times and transport ourselves to the land of bursting flavor through its herbs and spices and devoured the creamiest self-made hummus.

Travel from home via food - Lebanese night

Also, we haven’t been to Mexico yet but it’s on our list for its vibrant culture intrigues us to explore it further and nachos, tacos, and margaritas are our weaknesses. Heck for us, everyday needs to officially be declared as Taco Tuesday and Margarita Monday. So, it was only fair that we had ourselves a Mexican night.

Let the silver screen drift you away

A great way to get that feeling of being lost in another destination can be by living vicariously through some of your favorite characters in the film, which help tickle your travel buds in just the right way. So, pop some corn, get into either your comfy PJs or dress up and travel from home to places like Bali or Paris and other such destinations without jeopardizing your safety and of those around you. Plus, there are no hassles of flight delays, long layovers, packing/unpacking and this one’s easy on your pocket too 😉

Here are some of our top picks:

  1. The Secret Life of Walter Mitty [Greenland in all its glory]
  2. The Lord of the Rings [New Zealand has become a lifelong dream thanks to Gandalf and his crew]
  3. Midnight in Paris [The perfect background score for a magical night out in Paris]
  4. 50 First Dates [Grab some popcorn and escape to Hawaii]
  5. Home Alone 2 [Get lost in New York with Kevin]
  6. Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara [Road trip across Spain with the boys]

Let words guide you to your dream destinations

Being indoors, this is the perfect time to research destinations that have been on your bucket list and you have been dreaming to explore. Use this time and get to planning to make that dream a reality in the near future. Read up on those countless travel books, itineraries, top experiences, and customize your itinerary the way you would like with the help of those. You have a good amount of time to plan that perfect getaway.

For us, travel has always majorly been more about the whole experience than ticking things off the list. So if you would like to feel how would it be like to be at a particular destination, check out some of our blogs to stir that wanderlust within you.

Travel from home through travel blogs

Follow our blog for top experiences, accommodation guides, and picking eco-friendly sustainable tours (as traveling responsibly is now all the more the need of the hour). Going forward, if you were not already doing so, we highly encourage you to pick tours/hotels and services that follow sustainable practices and are eco-friendly as much as possible. Strongly say no to all the activities on your travels that contribute to animal cruelty, environmental degradation, and so on. Try as much as you can, even the small changes you make will go a long way.

Here are some guides & recommendations for you to create everlasting memorable experiences in the near future and heighten your current travel from home excitement

  1. One Happy Island (Yes! That’s what this island is called, click to find out why)
  2. Canoeing through Asia’s Phang Nga Bay surrounded by gigantic limestone formations
  3. Witnessing a breathtaking sunset, in an infinity pool, overlooking the Andaman Sea
  4. Sipping cocktails in a Jungle oasis within the lush green forests of Ubud
  5. A fun treehouse experience for adults

Bring the spa to you

It’s not advisable to go out if it’s not for essential commodities or in case of emergencies and social distancing is the current way of life. But even though you can’t go to the Spa that doesn’t mean self-pampering has to stop. You can’t go out for a Swedish or Thai massage or experience a flower bath or a Balinese spa experience, but you can certainly bring the Spa home and indulge in giving your body that much-needed love. Set up your bath with candles, put on some relaxing music you like, or your travel playlist that reminds you of a particular destination, and enter into that Zen spa mode. Put on some sheet masks and fragrant body scrubs to exfoliate and renew your skin as after a relaxing vacation.

At home spa

And in case you are out of scrubs don’t worry about stepping out rather DIY. Coffee scrub is great to improve blood circulation and reduce the appearance of cellulite. So here’s how we make it:

  1. Transfer fresh or used ground coffee (We like using the used one, more use than one, better use of product/money).
  2. Add sugar (not powdered) as much you like.
  3. 1 teaspoon or less of olive oil/coconut oil. We use olive oil for our skin.
  4. Mix it all up.
  5. Then scrub away & Voila hello baby smooth skin!

Ps. Although please always with this or any new product you are about to try, do a patch test to see if it works for your skin.

Continue chasing sunsets

Everywhere we go we love watching a sunset together. It is one of our favorite things to do which has now become almost like a tradition every time we travel. We know, just like us, you miss those beach sunsets, or those as a reward after hiking up to viewpoints but being at home doesn’t mean you can’t enjoy one. Grab a beer or a hot cuppa and enjoy some window sunsets. Just like nature never forgets to put on some kind of a show don’t forget to look out through your window for some magical colors in that sky. Here are some window sunsets from us to you:

Continue chasing sunsets even from home
Enjoy window sunsets

Head. Set. Go.

Last but not the least if any of you own a VR then you know it, all you have to do is put them babies on, grab a beer, and fly, sail, or wander away on the streets of your favorite city. This is one piece of technology that is definitely life-changing for travelers stuck at home, and nothing comes close to giving you that feeling of wonder and amazement, that only we travel lovers know of. Travel from home, right from the comfort of your TV room and fly like a bird through an eagle’s point of view in Eagle Flight, go deep-sea diving with sharks in VR Worlds, discover new islands by flying your own plane in Ultrawings, or head on to a fair to play games like Ring toss or shoot the duck (even rock climbing apparently) in Carnival Games VR. And of course, nothing beats good old Google maps in VR mode if you want to just reminisce re-visiting a previous travel memory and making it a reality, or discover something new by flying over cities without worrying about checked baggage or window seats. [PS – If you’re an Elton John fan, we cannot recommend enough the Farewell Yellow Brick Road VR experience on YouTube. Hit us up or comment down below for more VR recommendations]

Travel without leaving your home through virtual reality headsets

We know these are difficult times and it is not easy staying in for so long, some of you might be loving it, some might be dealing with anxiety, financial pressures, maybe even loneliness. Even though it is easier said than done, but we know we will get through it and we are all in this together. Continue staying in and look for positives in the smallest things you do. For sure, we are paying a price by staying in, but Mother Earth has finally gotten that desperately (long overdue) needed time to heal, with dolphins showing up in otherwise polluted waters, to swans in canals, to animals on the road. Also it is a forced break where you are in a way made to look inwards and sit with yourself more. We live in a world where we have access to a lot of external knowledge, but very little about our inner selves. And this is a perfect opportunity to dive inwards and get connected to YOU.

And if you need any help, just feel free to write to us at [email protected]. We are no experts but we can always share with you some tips that have helped us immensely in connecting with our individual selves better and get through this time.

Bon Voyage!

My hubby and I just opened our pool for the season and I’m excited to spend the entire summer by it. If I can’t go on vacation at least I can hang out by the pool.

These are great suggestions! I love the idea of taking a virtual vacation and using other senses. My husband and I were supposed to be leaving for a trip to Greece in a week and a half which we obviously aren’t going to be able to do. I would love to surprise him by ordering some greek food and watching some videos about Greece to cheer us up!
